John Stuart ’72

Happy to report the birth of my 7th grandchild last month from my two sons. My oldest Harrison Stuart, a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Hampden Sydney College, has recently resigned as Admissions Director at Woodberry Forest School and moved to Nashville Tenn as headmaster of a startup Episcopal School. He and his wife Kathryn (Sweetbriar) have four children. My youngest son Sandy, EHS and Hampden Sydney College, and his wife Alayna (UK Wildcats) have just produced their third child. Sandy works with me in Lexington KY raising fast thoroughbred racehorses on our 400 acres of Kentucky bluegrass. Although KY is home base, my wife Douglas and I live in Miami in the winter and Prouts Neck Maine in the summer where despite turning 65 last month I shot a 77 on the golf course and invite any Elmo ever in the area to make contact for a game. Now approaching my 40th reunion year! Never mind that I should have had my 40th 4 years ago. But who’s counting? Just crossed the 65 mark but graduating my last (#4) child from high school this year. He’s headed to JMU; I remember when we went to the Madizone to visit the Ladies! Still feverishly at work in the institutional investment consulting business, my own company, Archstone Portfolio Solutions, started 5 1/2 years ago, now at $2 billion and counting. Slowing down so I can enjoy fly-fishing a little more but still very much engaged.

Still live on the same farm I was raised on, although I’m down to 35 acres now. As a result I lease out my facilities which include an 8 stall barn with tack room, utility room and office, along with 5 paddocks/pastures. At age 76 it works well for me.

Am now up to 6 grandchildren; two of my daughters live nearby and teach at the same school, while my middle daughter runs a small school in Charlotte for children with Aspergers Syndrome. Still play golf and do a little duck hunting.

Walker Lamond ’97

Lamond '97 Walker is living in Kuwait with his wife and two kids and is enjoying the diplomat life immensely. He continues to write for various television programs on the Discovery Channel and other cable networks, and no one seems to notice he is 6,500 miles away. In fact, they probably prefer it. His hair is short, his waistline trim, and tennis game improving.
