Renovations

Background

Built in the late 1920’s, the Phi Psi house has endured over 75 years of wear and tear and in the past 5-10 years it has begun to show its age. To date, renovations on the property have been piecemeal and sporadic at best, mostly addressing specific and immediate concerns. In the last 10-15 years the stresses on the house have become more obvious and garnered the attention of alumni, the University and the even the City of Charlottesville.

In 2006 the chapter president was arrested while at the library, and charged with violation of the building code in a move by the City to have fraternity building improvements taken seriously. It is for these reasons that Montalto Corporation, with the aid of over 50 alumni, has decided to embark on an unparalleled renovation effort, the Campaign to Save 159.
