Queer Student Union

The Queer Student Union at the University of Virginia is Charlottesville’s oldest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals. As such, we strive to provide a safe, welcoming, and confidential environment for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning individuals in the community. We also organize services, activities, and social programs for the student population at UVA, with an emphasis on queer culture and social thought.

As the largest LGBTQ+ group on Grounds, we work to represent and advocate LGBTQ+ students’ concerns to the University’s administration, alumni/ae, and the local government.

Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate certified independent organization (CIO) which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise, or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts, or omissions.

QVA is proud to have repeatedly given financial support to QSU and its endeavors. This has contributed to bringing LGBTQ+ speakers and scholars to grounds, enabled LGBTQ+ community building events to occur, and provided for year-over-year stability as student leadership has cycled through.
