Festival of Squash 2016

Fourth Annual Festival of Squash

McArthur Squash Center at Boar’s Head Sports Club
September 14-18, 2016

Come and join us at McArthur Squash Center in September for our 2016 Festival of Squash. The Festival has drawn rave reviews from pro players, amateurs, juniors, and spectators alike. Now in its fourth year, the event has become a major fixture on the US Squash calendar by virtue of its unique platform: four tournaments running simultaneously at one of the world’s finest venues for the game. Top-ranked pros will compete in the PSA Harrow Charlottesville Open, hundreds of amateurs will compete in the US Squash-sanctioned skill level championships, junior players will fill the brackets for the Junior Silver, and doubles players will team up in a fun-for-all round robin. And now there is even more reason to enter the event: this year’s Festival of Squash is a benefit in aid of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge and the net proceeds will benefit this vital local charity (read on to find out more about how you can help contribute to the event and its mission to assist the BBBS). So come out to play, watch, and enjoy the game, all while supporting a tremendous cause, at one of the world’s most welcoming and innovative venues.

PSA Harrow Charlottesville Open 2016 Tournament Info and Preview
September 14-17

Entry to our PSA event closed on August 4 and the Harrow Charlottesville Open Draw is now available on the PSA website. You can also find additional details on the Open via the tournament page on the PSA website. A printable PDF copy of the tournament draw is available here.

Our top two seeds are last year’s champion Stephen Coppinger (currently ranked world #24) and runner-up Ryan Cuskelly (ranked world #16). In last year’s final Coppinger was the victor by a 3-0 scoreline. But since then Cuskelly has been the more dominant player on the PSA World Tour, turning in performances that have helped him climb to a career-high ranking of #16 world as of December 2015.

But both players will face stiff competition as they attempt their return trips to the finals. Cuskelly is in the top half of the draw, which includes 2014 world junior champion Diego Elias of Peru. Coppinger, in the bottom half of the draw, could find himself up against Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi, the youngster from Qatar who set our glass court alight during the inaugural 2013 event. Alternatively, Coppinger could play our 2014 champion, Alister Walker. The first-round match between Tamimi and Walker looks to be a highlight in the first day of action so be sure to arrive early to get a prime seat as the two face off on Wednesday, September 14 at 1:00 pm.

There is no charge to watch any of the PSA matches and side-wall viewing is open to non-members.
