Social Summary Spring 2012

During this past year Beta has grown tremendously in the social scene at UVa. The football season allowed us numerous occasions to mix with various sororities for tailgates. We were able to show off the brand new house during our mixer with Sigma Kappa, and Fraser Henderson opened his Range room up for a tailgate with Zeta Tau Alpha later in the semester. The date functions in the fall allowed us to branch off from previous experiences as we hosted our first date function in the newly renovated house and also travelled out to Montfair, a local cabin for another date function. Additionally, we hosted an exceptional winter formal at the Jefferson Theater which was a huge success for everyone that attended.

Tug for the Town 2012

The spring semester has been incredibly busy as it seems we had a mixer or date function scheduled nearly every weekend. We have branched out to new sororities and continue to fill up the calendar. In order to improve relations with Kappa Kappa Gamma, with whom we host our philanthropy the Tug for the Town, we hosted a mixer at Peter Miller’s Range room, which we felt would allow the event to be more successful and continue this partnership into the future. We have not limited ourselves to mixers around Grounds, as we recently went skeet shooting with Delta Zeta at Jamie Thompson’s residence in Barboursville, and had an ice skating mixer at the downtown rink with Chi Omega. In addition, we’ve had cookouts with Kappa Delta and Zeta, a bar mixer with Gamma Phi Beta, and a paint war with Kappa Delta. We also shared three plots at Foxfield Races with Alpha Delta Pi and had a fantastic time at the races. Our Parents’ Formal was one of the highlights of the year, and I think it’s safe to say everyone involved had a great time. The event was hosted at the Omni as we have done in years past, but the band we hired, In Full, was a significant improvement upon years past and allowed the brotherhood to have a fantastic time and impress their parents. We’ve also held an additional date function at the house, a date function at 3 on the corner, and a private party at Baja Bean. We hope to continue to build the relationships we have initiated this past year and are all excited to see what the future brings.
