Update on Cav Daily Pledge Drive

When we first wrote last week, we faced a critical deadline to prove that The Cavalier Daily could retire its past-due rent. The swift and significant response from alumni and the wider University community has allowed us to meet that deadline. In less than 48 hours, we had in hand pledges to dissolve the Cav Daily’s outstanding rent obligations. In response, administrators have agreed to sign a new lease with the newspaper that will permit the paper to remain in its current offices—if we deliver funds to retire the debt by October 1.

Donate Today

We are currently in the process of converting pledges into donations, and we invite you to contribute to this initiative by donating today. Although our pledge drive exceeded its $55,000 goal, we plan to use any surplus donations to create a reserve rent fund for the Cav Daily. This is important because the administration has asked us to assure them the paper will not fall behind on rent again.

You can contribute by clicking the link above, paying with your credit card and selecting the “Cavalier Daily Financial Support Fund” as the designated account for your donation.

If you prefer to pay by check, please make it out to the Cavalier Daily Alumni Association and mail it to:

Should you wish for your contribution to be used only to support rental payments, please write “Cavalier Daily Financial Support Fund” on the memo line of the check. Otherwise, it will be understood that your contribution is to be used by the CDAA for the general welfare of the paper, including but not necessarily limited to payment of rent.

The paper’s managing board has given a great deal of thought to the necessary steps it must take to increase revenue, cut costs and deepen engagement with students. The CDAA will work with the managing board this year and beyond to bring those visions to fruition. None of this, however, would be possible without the support of alumni and friends.

Thank you for considering a donation to sustain the Cav Daily at this important moment. If you have any questions, please contact Matt Cameron, CDAA president, at mcc5cf@virginia.edu.
