April 5, 2014 | Birdwood Golf Course

Last year the actives initiated a successful Tiki party to raise $2,500 for the Norma Livingston Foundation, which supports ovarian cancer research. We as alumni chipped in an additional $500 to round off the contribution. This event was held in honor of Lori Johnson, who lost her life to this disease 7 years ago. Her husband, Johnny Johnson ’79, and son, Luke Johnson ’15, are both Eta Dekes. Johnny is very involved in fundraising for this cause in Birmingham, Alabama. As a result of the gift, Dean Allen Groves received a letter of praise of the actives’ leadership and spirit of giving from the Norma Livingston Foundation.

We have decided to start an annual golf event for the alumni, actives, and members of the Charlottesville community. Already, we have selected a date and venue: Saturday, April 5 at the University’s Birdwood golf course. Tee off is scheduled for 9:30 AM. We will offer a catered lunch and a fine golf course, cold beer, and good fun. There will be a number of prizes for the winners! We will have more information about this event in January.

Our first year goal is to have 12 active players, 24 Alumni players, and 12 more from the Charlottesville community for a total of 12 foursomes. The actives plan to hold a second and better Tiki party on Saturday afternoon the 12th of April.
