Greetings Alumni of the Virginia Glee Club!

We hope you’re doing okay and staying safe during these incredibly surreal times. It’s hard to believe that it was two months ago that we returned from our Spring Break tour of the Midwest. It was during the trip that we learned from the University that all classes would resume online after break, so that was the last time we saw each other in person. We’ve been staying in touch via Zoom game nights and Zoom Exec Meetings but, of course, it’s not the same. I feel especially sad for our fourth-years, who won’t get to sing their Finals Concert and bask in all of the other pomp and circumstance on the occasion of their commencement, but we’ll still be doing Swan Songs via Zoom!

You’ve probably been seeing videos online of Virtual Choirs, the ones where singers record their parts alone, into their devices, and then some editing wizards turn it into a magical video. After discussions with Exec, we’ve decided that making a virtual choir video of “Virginia, Hail, All Hail (10K)” and “The Good Old Song” would be a fun way to give our departing students something to remember this semester by, in addition to giving our alumni (you!) a chance to get involved and excited about our upcoming Sesquicentennial Glee Club Year.

Haven’t sung in a while? You can practice all you want and make several trial videos before you submit. The engineers who will stitch it all together know exactly how to balance all the voices and create something that should make us proud. You’ll be singing along to a recording of the music, so you’ll have plenty of support. Not sure how to do all the technical stuff? There are instructions in the links below.

The cost to create this video is $15 per person, and while the Glee Club is committed to shoulder the expense, if you’d like to make a donation to help defray the cost, you can do so here. Just click the Donate button and earmark your gift for the Annual Fund. Want to throw in a little extra for our next International Tour? We won’t say no to that!

We are hoping you will join us on this project! If you’re comfortable singing more than one part, feel free to submit more than one video! We hope to have all submissions saved by June 1, 2020.

In Harmony, Love, and Brotherhood,
Frank Albinder
