“Throughout my time at UVA, I’ve been pushed, challenged, and ultimately grown in more ways than I could have ever imagined. While I am thankful for the ways in which the positions of leadership I found myself in allowed me to learn and develop new skills, there have been many times where I faced failure and had difficulty handling the workload. In these moments, the Hall has served as my greatest system of support.
Coming to the Hall as a first year, I really looked up to many of the guys in the pledge classes above me. Seeing the way that those guys looked out for each other and saw the Hall as more than just a place to have parties demonstrated how the Hall could become like a family to me at UVA. Looking back, it has. As a first and second year, I found mentors within the Hall who pushed me to take advantage of the opportunities around me. Within my pledge class and those above me, I found friends who encouraged me in my work and were there for me when things got hard. Most importantly, these are the guys who have grounded me in what is important. They have given me a space to be open about what’s going on in my life, and they have shown me a good time when I just needed to have some fun. I cannot imagine what my experience at UVA would have been like without the Hall, and I am so thankful that I’ve got one more semester to spend with my brothers.”
