Spring 2021 Rush Update

After the most difficult Rush process in recent memory, the Zoo is thrilled to welcome seventeen exceptional young men into our brotherhood this spring – including four legacies (from ’91, ’17, ’20, and ’22). This year’s class studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Architecture, and starting next fall, the McIntire School of Commerce. During their high school careers, they were representatives and presidents of student government, members of their honor councils, science fair award winners, and captains of numerous varsity sports teams (including lacrosse, tennis, track, and football). They also demonstrated excellence inside the classroom. The group features a high school valedictorian, a National Merit Scholar, multiple National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society members, an Echols Scholar, and a Jefferson Scholar.

Although these young men have had a largely online experience thus far, they’ve still found ways to be involved in University life. They’ve dedicated their extracurricular efforts to the Reformed University Fellowship, the Virginia Review of Politics, First Year Council, the Cavalier Daily newspaper, Naval ROTC, Money Makes Change, Club Spikeball, Club Lacrosse, and Madison House among so many other organizations.

This summer, many of them will pursue jobs in their fields of interest. One will shadow an orthopedic surgeon, another will intern with EPA Region 5 in the midwest, another will work as a Capitol Hill intern with a Senator, and several will work as camp counselors.

In their limited time as pledges, they’ve quickly developed close relationships, both with each other and older brothers. They look forward to learning more about the house and its history throughout the spring.
