Robert D. (Bob) Greer ’55

Bob Greer having joined Phi Delta Theta in 1952 as a 2nd yearman when the house was located on Chancellor St. near THE CORNER. Up until this day I remain good friends with many of my Brothers in The Bond. While at The University the Phi Delt house was considered a strong-hold for athletes Dick Wells (golf), Jim Bates (swim) team, and Bo Hopkins (soccer). Football athletes were Ray Quillen, Bob Tata, Carlton (Shaddy) Schelhorn, Eddie Knowles, Bill and Dave King, and others I do not recall. Many of these guys were two sport athletes. Schelhorn put the shot, Quillen ran sprints and high jumped. Then came Bob Greer. Ran the 2 mile in track, ran cross country (Captain 2 Years), and was a member of UVA’s final boxing team in 1955. Up until June 2013 I resided in The Wintergreen area for about 15 years and moved to 2408 Old Stone Rd., Hurdle Mill N.C. 27541. I am married to my lovely wife, Shirley for 56 years, have 4 children and 7 grands. 2 of my four kids and one grandson graduated from UVA. An oddity occurred when my grand completed his chemical engineering degree. He was Robert D. Greer III, preceded by his dad, Robert D. Greer, Jr. (Civil Eng.) both preceded by their father and grandfather, Robert D. Greer Sr. The End.
