For safety and security reasons, Montalto has installed new, heat and fire resistant steel doors and frames throughout the house. The old doors were no longer serviceable after years of hard use. Most had been reduced to poor imitations and served little purpose other than to act as a poster board for the latest bumper sticker espousing the notion of the moment. Attached are before and after photographs of the entry to Room 1. The “before” door (left) was in two pieces held together by its hinges on the right side and the two 2×4-inch lengths on the left. The replacement in the “after” photograph (right) includes an elegant transom panel.
