Greetings, Phi Sigma Kappa Alumni,
This first newsletter is part of an effort by alumni and brothers to improve chapter communication with all alumni and to build stronger engagement between Psi Chapter alumni and the current undergraduate chapter.

Importantly, there are two key drivers prompting this call to all alumni:
- Building the Brotherhood: Recruitment challenges for the chapter have been gradually building over several years, resulting in a membership in the fall of 2020 of 14 fourth-years and two second-years. This situation was compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which required all Greek organizations to pursue novel approaches to recruitment for the 2020-2021 school year.
- Annual Campaign for the House: A backlog of maintenance and upkeep issues at the Chapter house has built up over the past several years and needs to be addressed. The near term issues are a combination of cosmetics (deep cleaning, painting, lack of furniture) and smaller professional repairs (replacing gutters). The longer term challenge is the need for a complete building renovation. The building is about 110 years old, and many features are simply worn out.
The house corporation formed a committee to work on these issues with the chapter, the Alumni Advisory Group, and the following near term actions were taken:
- Extensive discussions on rush strategy were held with the chapter leadership to help develop a strong recruitment plan.
- A modest amount of money was raised to support the chapter’s recruitment effort in the spring of 2021.
- A communications contract was placed with the UVA Alumni Association to facilitate a stronger connection with all alumni and develop stronger alumni engagement with the chapter.
This email newsletter is the kickoff to this communications effort. We are planning a more extensive print newsletter to be mailed out this summer, and will continue the combination of email and print newsletters into 2022 to keep everyone apprised of the situation.
