Update on the House

Installation of new flooring in Old Kitchen after asbestos remediation (Bill Hamilton ʾ79, Chandler Williams ʾ91, and Quentin Bearse ʾ01)

Thanks to funding from last year’s annual campaign, column club was able to make several important investments in the chapter house since the end of the last academic year. These investments included:

  • Hiring a contractor to remove the old flooring (which contained asbestos) from the old kitchen
  • Purchasing new wifi equipment for the chapter
  • Purchasing a new water heater for the house
  • Hiring an electrician to install new outlets in the first floor common rooms
  • Hiring a plumber to repair several leaks and broken fixtures

The brothers and alumni also made several repairs and improvements to the house themselves over the same period, including:

  • Installing new flooring and trim in the old kitchen
  • Replacing the walls and tiling the shower in the bathroom above the front door
  • Refinishing the remaining hardwood floors
  • Patching the foundation on the 17th street side of the house
  • Fixing the brick trim around the front porch
  • Installing several new doors and lock kits

We’ve made a lot of progress improving the condition of the chapter house over the past two years, but there is still work to be done. Several windows still need to be rebuilt and we will need to make substantial repairs to the gutters in the near future. If you haven’t contributed to this year’s campaign yet, please consider donating now to help us continue our making improvements to the house.
