As a native Floridian born and raised in West Palm Beach, I was drawn to UVA because of my strong desire to study political science, and Charlottesville offered strong academics coupled with a well-balanced social life and access to the outdoors. In addition to my classes and weekend adventures hiking and fly-fishing in the Shenandoah, I became very involved in the Beta Chapter, serving first as Recruitment Chairman from 2020-2021 and then as Commander from 2022-2023.
I look back on my time at the Beta Chapter as some of the most formative years of my life. During those four years, I formed some of my closest friendships, gained unparalleled leadership experience, and weathered a vast range of highs and lows that hardly seem to fit within such a short timeframe. While it is no surprise that fun parties and brotherhood events created many lasting memories, I have found that some of my fondest memories from the Beta Chapter come from the simple pleasures. My favorite moments include early mornings driving to a fishing spot before sunrise, long nights studying with other brothers in the library (fueled by to-go orders from Tacos Gomez), watching the sunset from the balcony after a long day of classes, and getting to know each new pledge class through one-on-one conversations.
Having graduated from UVA in May 2023, I now work as a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, D.C. Although I am no longer located in Charlottesville, I continue to remain active in Sigma Nu by engaging with the national network of Sigma Nu alumni in the D.C. area and by serving on the Beta Chapter Alumni Advisory Board. I continue to find deep gratification through the relationships that Sigma Nu offers and the engagement from current brothers as they continue to better the chapter and create new memories for each other at 189 Culbreth Road.
Fraternally,
Will Keen (Col ’23)
