Quentin Shin
Quentin (Q) is a third-year from Leesburg, VA, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Computer Science and Data Science. Q currently serves as Recorder and is the incoming Commander starting in Spring 2024. As Commander, his vision for the Beta Chapter focuses on fostering a stronger culture of brothers that are committed to the success of the fraternity on all facets.
Q hopes to nurture the growth and success of each member and the chapter as a whole, and expand the Beta Chapter’s reputation and impact at UVA. He also hopes to bolster more consistent engagement with our alumni network to leverage their expertise in improving chapter operations. Q is a passionate fan of UVA basketball and football, the Washington Nationals, and enjoys discussing sports with fellow brothers.
Outside the fraternity, Q conducts research in a biomedical engineering lab, where he concentrates on the biomechanics of the lower limbs and developing musculoskeletal models of the hip. This October, Q had the prestigious opportunity to present his research at the Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Meeting. He says this was an incredible opportunity to not only represent UVA, but also connect with many leading professionals in the field. Amidst these achievements, Q cherishes his brotherhood experiences, with a memorable trip to Cancun last spring break alongside his pledge class brothers and attending a Nationals game in DC this summer standing out as favorite moments. Q’s combination of academic excellence, fraternity leadership, and personal development truly embodies the values of our Beta Chapter, making us all proud to call him a brother.
Rob Gay
Robert is a 4th-year from Arlington, VA. He’s majoring in Computer Science and pursuing a minor in Business Spanish. Currently serving as Lieutenant Commander, Robert was previously the Rush and Social chairman. The various positions have allowed Robert to, “enjoy learning about all areas of the chapter operations”.
Moving off of the executive board at the end of the semester he says he has, “greatly enjoyed his time helping the fraternity and knows he is leaving it in good hands upon graduation”.
Outside of the fraternity, Robert is a part of the Virginia Trap and Skeet club and works at a local Charlottesville restaurant. This past summer, Robert completed Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. He will commission as a Second Lieutenant upon graduating in May. His favorite brotherhood memory has been “the brotherhood float down the James River earlier this semester”.
Ryan Bordner
Ryan is a third-year student from Riverside, CA, double majoring in Foreign Affairs and History. He currently serves as the chapter’s philanthropy chair, as well as being involved on both the social and rush committees. As philanthropy chair Ryan has dramatically increased the chapter’s fundraising efforts through events like a pickleball tournament, as well as holding fundraising events with other organizations on Grounds.
Outside of the fraternity, Ryan spent the summer interning at a political think-tank in Rome, Italy, where he did research and publication work. He is involved in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life on Grounds, as well as working part-time at Roots on the corner. He also enjoys lifting weights and playing sports in his free time. His favorite brotherhood memory was a camping trip to West Virginia he and some other brothers went on over this past fall break.
