Fellow brothers of Sigma Pi,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing on behalf of Beta Pi of Sigma Pi, Inc., with some news regarding the chapter house.
On December 8, 2024, a fire broke out at the chapter house and while thankfully nobody was injured, the fire caused significant damage to the main part of the house, which is not currently safe to inhabit. We have been working with our management company, the Charlottesville fire marshal and our insurance company to assess the damage and determine what needs to be done to repair the house. We expect to have insurance pay for much of the repair work, but it is not likely to cover everything that we need to return the chapter to a stable footing. Additionally, losing access to the chapter house just before rush begins creates challenges for the current brotherhood.
Accordingly, we are writing to request your assistance in making sure that the house continues as something that we can all be proud of, and to demonstrate our commitment to the current brotherhood. This money will go towards any additional expenses related to repair and reconstruction that are not covered by insurance, and also towards supporting the activities of the brotherhood during the repairs. In addition, we encourage you all to take this opportunity to connect (or re-connect) with the current brothers to demonstrate our support in non-financial ways. We know from our experience that the shared bond with alumni of different class years is one of the best parts of the fraternity experience, and there is no better time to demonstrate it than right now. Additionally, we currently have open positions on the board of the house corporation and could use extra help in the aftermath of the fire.
