Raleigh Hazel, a fourth year student in St. Anthony Hall, ran the 26.2 mile Anthem Richmond Marathon on Saturday, November 20th in Richmond, Virginia. He was joined by fourth year Theta Laura LeBow, who ran the half marathon. Raleigh chose to fundraise for two foundations, the OneLove Foundation in memory of former Delta Chi, Yeardley Love, and the Shepherd Center in Atlanta Georgia, a Catastrophic Care Hospital specializing in spinal cord rehabilitation and brain injuries on behalf of his sister, Caroline, who suffered a catastrophic accident in 2007. Raleigh raised a total of $13,745, with half the proceeds going to the OneLove foundation and the other half going to the Shepherd Center.

“As far as the race goes, it was easily the hardest physical challenge I have ever undertaken. The challenge of running in that race, however, pales in comparison to those who suffer from Spinal or Brain Injuries or are victims of relationship or domestic violence,” said Raleigh.

Laura Lebow reflected on her experience running the race, saying “I thought the race went incredibly well. A couple of people ran the half marathon with me and a ton of other people came to Richmond to support Raleigh and his great cause. He put his whole heart into this endeavor in honor of both his sister and Yeardley, and it truly paid off. We’re really proud of him and everyone who participated!”
