We have another reason to celebrate during the Centennial Celebration in October! Over the past year the undergraduates have accomplished some incredible feats in several different areas and I am happy to report that we have received a number of awards honoring all of these accomplishments. Here is a brief list of what the undergraduate chapter has accomplished this year:

  • With 17 new brothers, Xi Chapter continues to have strong recruitment members. At 66 members, Xi is well above the IFC average.
  • The Chapter GPA has increased by more than a tenth causing our IFC rank to move up from 20th to 8th.
  • We revamped our philanthropic efforts and raised over $10,000 for charitable causes around the Charlottesville community. Xi Chapter held its first annual Date Auction philanthropy in the Spring benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
  • Xi Chapter has served as a model example of how a fraternity should conduct itself with the Charlottesville neighbors. We created a memorandum of understanding with the neighbors, promising to uphold certain standards above those set by the IFC.
  • We have established strong relationships with all of our neighbors and have thus received zero noise complaints in a time of increased scrutiny in Charlottesville. We even represented UVA Greek life by speaking at the City Council meeting regarding noise ordinances in order to give the community a positive example of a fraternity living peacefully with its neighbors.

Most Improved and Most Outstanding Chapter

The Xi Chapter was recognized by the UVA Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life by being named both the Most Improved Chapter and Most Outstanding Chapter in the Inter-Fraternity Council. This is an incredible achievement for all members of our fraternity and is a testament to the tireless work put in by the brotherhood.

Greek Man of the Year

Finally, we must also recognize the efforts of our outgoing president, Miles Kirwin (’13). Miles was named the Greek Man of the Year by the OFSL due to his work for the fraternity and the UVA Army Cadet Battalion. Without Miles’ dedication to the brotherhood, we would not have been able to achieve all of these wonderful improvements. Thank you, Miles, for everything you have done for Xi Chapter.
