Golf Outing, 8:45am Shotgun Start

Last year 6 groups of alumni and undergrads went to Devil’s Knob in Wintergreen and had a great time.  This year we’re bringing it closer to home and playing at Birdwood Golf Course.  The cost is $80 (includes cart, green fee and range balls) and you can register on this website.  Form your team and start practicing!  Just like last year, each player on the winning team will get a trophy.

Rules:  We will be playing captain’s choice. In this format each player hits a tee shot, the captain chooses the best tee shot, and each player hits from that spot. This process is continued until the ball is holed out. You may lift, clean and place your ball within one club length of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole. If the selected shot lies in a hazard, bunker, rough, fairway, fringe or the green, every player must hit their shot from that same area.

Due to the nature of Captain’s Choice we encourage Xi Alumni (and family!) of all skill levels to participate.

 Centennial Dinner, 6:30pm

Childcare:

If there is enough interest we will arrange for childcare during the Centennial Dinner.  Please contact Chris Winter at christopherwwinter@gmail.com or 757-377-8220 for more information.

Parking:

There is some parking behind Alumni Hall and the Newcomb Hall Parking Garage is across the street.

Attire:

It is recommended that men wear sport coat and a tie or a suit to the dinner.

Cocktail hour: 6:30-8pm

We will be serving cocktails and hor d’oeuvres on the patio just off the Alumni Hall ballroom from 6:30-8pm.  Wine and beer are included with your registration and there will be a cash bar for liquor drinks.

Dinner: 8pm

We realize many people will be traveling on Friday and therefore we are starting dinner at 8pm.  Eric Stamer Catering is serving a buffet of roast beef tenderloin, herb crusted turkey breast, roasted Atlantic salmon, vegetables, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, bread and Virginia apple spice cake.

During the dinner we will have a few brief presentations covering 100 years of Xi Chapter and the future of our fraternity.

Dancing

We have Alumni Hall until 11:30 pm so we will be playing music after dinner.

Saturday, October 26

Tailgate: 9am

The tailgate will take place at the renovated and expanded chapter house at 600 Preston Place.  Kickoff time is not announced until a few weeks before the game.  The event will be catered and likely have fried chicken, bbq, vegetable platters, fruit platters, cheese and crackers.  Beer, wine and liquor will be served.  There will also be some yard games such as ladder golf and corn hole.  Parking is very limited at the chapter house and should be saved for some of our older alumni.  There is street parking near the chapter house.

Football Game, UVa vs Georgia Tech: 12:30pm

We have a block of reserved seats that can be purchased from the UVa Athletic Department via a link on this website.  Unfortunately buses not affiliated with the Athletic Department are prohibited from dropping people off at the stadium.  Please wear comfortable shoes for the walk to the stadium!

Alumni Party at the Chapter House, 7pm (band starts at 8pm)

The start of the party is somewhat dependent on game time.  We plan on starting a few hours after the game to give everyone a chance to grab dinner before heading back to the chapter house.

A band playing music representative of all our alumni will play during the party.

Beer, wine and liquor will be served.

Sunday, October 27

Annual Meeting, 10:30am

The Xi Chapter Alumni annual meeting will begin at 10:30am.  The board will be experiencing some member turnover and elections will be held.

We will serve a light brunch consisting of aspirin, coffee, juice, bagels, donuts, yogurt and fruit.

Other Information

Accommodations

We have rooms reserved at various local hotels.  See the ‘hotel information’ page on this website for more information.  Please reserve your rooms well in advance as space is limited.

Composite Archive and Electronic Library

Many composites have been lost over the years.  We started a campaign to find all these lost composites, scan them into an electronic form, and then have all past composites play in a constant loop on a TV in the chapter house.  So far over 20 missing composites have been sent in and scanned.  We still need many composites, particularly ones from the 1990s.  If you have any missing composites please send them to Will Moomaw at 600 Preston Place.  His email is wem7ba@virginia.edu
