Summer Update for UVA Retired Faculty – August, 2022

Greetings from the Board of Directors of the UVA Retired Faculty Association. We want to provide you with some important updates as we are in the process of finalizing our programs for this academic year. To begin, we have decided to suspend dues again this year and continue to ask for voluntary donations in order to cover our costs that typically amount to about $5,000 annually. We are beginning this year with close to $1,900 in our UVA account. We also want to thank those of you who took the time to review and vote on the proposed amendments to our Constitution and By-Laws. We are pleased to report that the amendments were overwhelmingly approved by a vote of 169 in favor and only 1 opposed. The revised Constitution and By-Laws are posted on our “History” page. We are also pleased to report that we will be asking you to approve adding two new Emeritus faculty members to our Board. They are William Kehoe from the McIntire School of Commerce and Jonathan Cannon from the Law School. Our goal is to have all of the UVA Schools represented on our Board.

Ian Baucom presenting at AlumniHall on 9/27 at 5:30PMAlthough we anticipate this academic year will once again be unpredictable, we are planning a return to at least some in-person events. In fact, we have decided to begin the year with a Retired Faculty Association reception to be held at Alumni Hall from 5:30pm – 7:30pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

We are delighted that Executive Vice President and Provost, Ian Baucom, has agreed to be our speaker. We have reserved the Annex, the Ballroom, the Terrace, the Kitchen and more than 100 parking spaces This will be our first in-person event in over two years, and we are thrilled to begin the year with such an exciting gathering. So please mark your calendars and join us for the reception. Please note payment for this event is online only, no checks will be accepted.

We also anticipate hosting additional events this fall and next spring. We are hopeful that at least one event will be a return to luncheons at the Omni hotel. Once we have finalized our plans for the year, we will post the schedule on our website. We welcome your questions, comments and suggestions. Be well.

Warm regards,

UVARFA Board of Directors
