Alpha Chapter Excellence Fund Annual Scholarship

To support and sustain the undergraduate brothers of the Alpha Chapter of Chi Phi, the Alpha Alumni Association is committed to providing scholarships to undergraduate brothers. The broad goal of such scholarships is to promote and reward those brothers who most fully live up to the ideals of Chi Phi. In this spirit, Alpha Alumni Association is pleased to announce the initiation of a new scholarship, the Alpha Chapter Excellence Scholarship. A warm thank you to the many brothers and alumni who helped launch this Scholarship with their donations.

The Alpha Chapter Excellence Scholarship will be awarded annually to the Chi Phi brother who understands and embodies the spirit of the Alpha Chapter: brotherhood and service in and to the UVA, local Charlottesville, and national Chi Phi communities. The brother who receives this scholarship will have articulated the meaning of Chi Phi to the communities in which he belongs, and will be committed to leading the Alpha Chapter in such endeavors.

The annual Scholarship will be paid toward the recipient’s spring semester tuition in the amount of $1,859. The recipient will be recognized at the last Brother Meeting of the fall semester and in a future edition of the Alpha Notes. The Scholarship is available to brothers with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or a GPA of at least 3.4 for the preceding two semesters. In order to be eligible, applicants must have attended a minimum of 90% of brother meetings in the current and preceding semester. Applicants should also be current in their financial obligations to the House. The following materials are to be included in the application:

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation.
    • At least one (1) letter of recommendation should come from the undergraduate chapter.
  • A written statement describing your view of the Alpha Chapter’s role in its communities and how you serve your communities as a brother of Chi Phi.

All application materials should be emailed to Chi Phi’s Alpha Alumni Association President, Jim Soderquist ’67 (jimdds@virginia.edu).

The Scholarship is intended for a brother who has shown a commitment to the service ideals of the brotherhood and who intends to be a leader in service for the Alpha Chapter during his remaining time at the University.

We welcome donations to the Alpha Chapter Excellence Fund. We also would like to note that your support will allow the possible creation of other annual scholarships.
