Courtney MacDowell

Name: Courtney MacDowell

Major: Systems Engineering

Graduation Year: 2012

Being in the Virginia Women’s Chorus was one of my most fond memories at UVA. I joined the first semester of my first year because I was looking for something to do and went to the activities fair. The fair was so overwhelming, and I remember thinking “I guess I could just join a bunch of these clubs.” After walking around, I met some lovely women from VWC who encouraged me to come out for auditions. After auditioning for a few groups on Grounds and butchering every line of sight singing, I was very lucky to be offered a spot in VWC. I then met some of the women who would become my lifelong friends. During my four years at UVA, VWC was a large part of my life. Every rehearsal, social and concert was filled with laughter and love. I still cherish the feeling of standing on stage at Old Cabell Hall hearing the beautiful music around me. After graduation, I moved back to my hometown of Richmond. I have spent 3 years working at Altria Client Services in Information Technology. I quickly went back to school part time at University of Richmond and received my Masters of Business Administration. I still enjoy singing as a part of my church choir. I enjoyed returning to UVA for the VWC 40th Anniversary Concert, and I am looking forward to the next time we can all sing together again!
