Alumnae and Friends,
First of all, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support for the Women’s Chorus and introduce myself to you. I am a Third Year Accounting and Spanish major from Minneapolis, Minnesota and a committed member of the Alto 1 section. VWC is easily one of my favorite parts of U.Va. and I am honored to give back to the Chorus alongside our fabulous new Managing Board.
This semester has gotten off to an exciting and eventful start, and we are all very excited about the music we’ve been preparing. We welcomed six new members this spring and currently consist of 39 women, representing nine states and seven countries. So far this spring, we’ve sung the National Anthem at a sold-out men’s basketball game vs. Virginia Tech, at a women’s basketball game on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and a men’s baseball game vs. Monmouth. We also joined several a cappella groups to sing in the Glee Club’s SingFest, a concert which benefited the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
The Chorus has been working very hard to prepare for our annual Spring Concert, Lights, Camera, Action! The concert is early this year, and I’m amazed at how willing everyone has been to put in an extra hour or two each week to make sure we’re ready for March 29th. As always, KaeRenae has worked tirelessly to compile a versatile array of songs for our concert, ranging from classical pieces to her own arrangements of recent hits.
I would like to thank all of the alumnae, family, and friends who joined us in December at the National Christmas Tree and our Candlelight Concerts, and who continue to support us through donations and attendance at our concerts. It is always a joy for us to have former Women’s Chorus members on stage with us at the end of each concert to sing “Simple Gifts,” and we hope many of you will be able to join us on March 29th.
