The Honorable John M. Tran
Fairfax Circuit Court Judge
On April 4, 2013, John M. Tran was elected by the Virginia General Assembly to serve as a judge on the Fairfax County Circuit Court. Tran will be the first full-time Asian American judge in a Virginia court. The son of a South Vietnamese diplomat, he spent time between the United States and South Vietnam in the early 1970s, then moved to Virginia and earned his undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington University. After law school, Tran went into private practice for several years, then joined the Alexandria commonwealth’s attorney’s office in 1988. While there, he also served as a special assistant U.S. attorney in the federal courts in Alexandria. He is currently a litigation partner in the firm of DiMuroGinsberg, P.C., and will begin his duties as a judge on July 1st.
