Ernest Campbell “Boots” Mead Award Recipient – Conor Francis McLaughlin
In honor of Mr. Mead, longtime faculty advisor and honorary brother of the Zeta Chapter of Kappa Sigma, the brothers of the Zeta Chapter established the Ernest Campbell “Boots” Mead Award in April of 2012. The award recognizes a graduating brother who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, character, humility, and service within the Zeta Chapter, and who is deemed most deserving of special recognition. Most importantly, the recipient is one who has maintained the utmost respect and regard among the brotherhood. Recipients of the award are recognized on a plaque hung in McCormick Hall.
The 2019 recipient of the Mead Award is Conor McLaughlin. Conor is an exceptional person and a true friend to each person within the house. During his time in McCormick Hall, Conor was a quiet leader who garnered the highest respect of all of his brothers. Conor’s exceptional character and exemplary conduct impress everyone who meets him and his future is bright.
Shrine Scholar – Charles Garrison Meyer IV
It is only appropriate that a Kappa Sigma resides in the room where William Grigsby McCormick and company founded the Zeta Chapter in December of 1869. Thanks to alumni support and University respect, the Zeta Chapter is proud to select a 4th year brother each year as Shrine Scholar to reside in 46 East Lawn. The Shrine Scholar is a brother who exemplifies the principles of the Zeta Chapter and will represent the fraternity honorably at the heart of Jefferson’s Academical Village. The Shrine Scholar must not only hold high academic credentials, but must also be an important contributor to both the fraternity and the broader University community.
The 2019-2020 Shrine Scholar is Charlie Meyer. Charlie lived in McCormick Hall last year and is highly involved in several extracurriculars including Madison House, SEED, and the Theological Horizons Fellowship Program. He is a fourth year McIntire student studying Finance whose service to the house as a brother distinguished him as worthy of being Shrine Scholar. The Zeta Chapter is fortunate to have Charlie as a brother and representing the chapter at 46 East Lawn.
