SAM Fall Alumni Weekend Schedule

Join us October 3-6, 2024, as we celebrate the 56th anniversary of the Chapter’s founding and welcome alumni back to Grounds during our annual fall alumni weekend! See the schedule overview below to begin making your plans:

2024 Alumni Weekend Schedule of Events

Friday, October 4

  • Morning – Golf With SAM Alumni, Birdwood Golf Course at the Boar’s Head Resort
  • 4 p.m. – Annual BPHC Directors Meeting, SAM House, 129 Chancellor Street
    • Interested alumni are encouraged to attend.
  • 5 p.m. – Alumni Meet-and-Greet with Chapter, SAM House, 129 Chancellor Street
    • This is a brothers-only event to encourage mentoring and professional networking opportunities between the alumni and undergraduates.
  • 6-10 p.m. – Beta Psi Alumni Association Inaugural Event: A Welcome Back Alumni Gathering, will be held at the Tavern and Grocery’s downstairs bar (333 W. Main Street). A portion of the downstairs bar/dining area has been reserved for SAM alumni. The upstairs and other dining spaces will be open to the public.
    • Reservations for dinner upstairs are also available. Food is available for order downstairs as well. There will be light Appetizers and a cash bar.
    • To help defray the costs of renting this space and providing light appetizers, BPAA members will be asked to pay $10/member (this includes the member and spouse/significant other). Non-members will be charged $20 per person to help pay for the costs of this event.
    • Any alumni that wishes to join the BPAA that evening can purchase a one year membership for $60 ($50 for one year plus $10 for the food). Six year memberships for $250 are also available.
    • Be sure and pick up your Charter Membership pins at the door. This will admit you for the $10 member price and be good for future events. If you are unable to attend, these memberships pins will be mailed to your home address.
    • Finally, we hope to collect these fees ahead of time. Please contact Howard Siegel about Zelling or Venmoing the money.

Saturday, October 5

  • 10-11 a.m. – More Than the Score presents: Disruption or Evolution? The Future of EVs and the US Auto Industry, Alumni Hall, Ballroom
  • 12 p.m. – UVA vs. Boston College Football Game, Scott Stadium
    • A 50-person block of tickets has been reserved in Section 111. Tickets are $46 per person and are available for purchase through October 4, 2024. Get yours today!
  • 1-4 p.m. – Wine Tasting and Casual Lunch, Hazy Mountain Winery, 240 Hazy Mountain Lane, Afton, Va. 23920
    • Join fellow alumni for an informal tour and tasting at Hazy Mountain Winery (240 Hazy Mountain Lane, Afton, Va. 23920). This impromptu gathering (with no agenda) can be an alternative to attending the football game if it’s in the afternoon and an opportunity allowing more time for alumni to catch up with each other. Please contact Howard Siegel or Gus Callaway about details.
  • 6 p.m. – Pepsi Blue-White Scrimmage, John Paul Jones Arena
    • Watch the men’s and women’s basketball teams compete in the annual Pepsi Blue-White Scrimmage. Admission to the event is free.

Sunday, October 6

  • 12 p.m. – UVA vs. Louisville Field Hockey Game, Turf Field
    • Come and watch undefeated Virginia take on Louisville!
  • 1 p.m. – UVA vs. Miami Volleyball Game, John Paul Jones Arena
  • All Day – Virginia Women’s Tennis Wahoowa Invitational, Boar’s Head Sports Club

Before You Arrive:

  • 🛏️ Book Your Accommodations: As of now, all rooms in our room block have been booked at the Hampton Inn & Suites. If you desire to surrender your room, please contact Gus Callaway before you do so as he may have another alumni who wishes to take over that reservation.
  • 📢 Spread the Word! Call, text, and email your SAM alumni to make sure they’re coming back for this can’t-miss weekend!
  • 🏈 Purchase your UVA vs. Boston College Football Ticket: A 50-person block of tickets has been reserved for SAM alumni in Section 111. Tickets are $46/person. Get yours today!
