The Serpentine Society’s Fall Weekend is now just a few weeks away. Each year, we gather to honor members of the University of Virginia community who work on behalf of LGBTQ people on Grounds and in Charlottesville.

We honor people like Jennifer Hulvey, the Director of Financial Aid at UVA Law and a tireless advocate and ally for the LGBTQ community there. We also recognize the many students who receive our scholarships and grants. Students like Catalina Pinto, who led the successful effort to establish a Multicultural Student Center at UVA.

Now, more than ever, we need to tell the stories of people like Jennifer and Catalina. People who understand the urgency of persevering to build an equitable Charlottesville and a safe and welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds to learn and grow.

Have you considered attending this year’s events? Tickets are still available. Our informal luncheon with award winners, cocktail hour, and plated dinner by the C&O Restaurant are all included.

Even if you can’t attend, won’t you consider defraying the cost of student leaders and scholarship recipients? Since I began my time on the Serpentine Society board, our Fall Weekend—and the list of scholarship recipients and student leaders—has grown each year. Many students have told me this is one of the most meaningful events in their academic year. Your ticket purchase in their names allows us to offer tickets to as many students as possible.

You can also make contributions to the Serpentine Society through the Fall Weekend order form. Your gift to the Serpentine Society allows us to continue supporting student activities, alumni engagement events, student scholarships, and endowed professorships like the Julian Bond Professorship for Civil Rights Education.

Thank you for helping us build a strong University of Virginia community.

Very truly yours,

Brendan Maupin Wynn
