1879: The Rives Boat Club’s third race

The Rives Boat Club’s third race was held on July 15, 1879 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The University competed in a duel against the Rappahannock Boat Club of Fredericksburg, Va. The Course was one and half miles long.

“It had scarcely the semblance of a race, for the Rives came in three hundred and fifty yards ahead of the Fredericksburgers.”

“The race was easily won by the University crew by over ten lengths” (Coach J. Redwood, Corks and Curls)
