Boathouse & Rowing Center
Virginia Rowing trains out of the Thomas Temple Allan Boathouse, at the Magruder Dent, Jr., Rowing Center, located on the banks of the Rivanna Reservoir, about four miles from the University. The reservoir provides five miles of calm water in the heart of Albemarle County.
The boathouse, built in 1994, was recently given a large addition and renovation. It now boasts nearly 15,000 square feet of space, including five boat bays, an additional shop/repair bay, an athletic-training room, a stretching/warm-up room, a video room, a meeting room/offices, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and an ergometer room with over fifty ergs.
The boathouse also houses the Rivanna Rowing Club, Charlottesville’s community rowing program, which trains out of the facility in the summer months. Community scullers store their shells in a separate bay.
Aquatics & Fitness Center
Much of the crew’s land training takes place at UVa’s Aquatics & Fitness Center, which was awarded the NIRSA’s Outstanding Sports Facility Award for 2005. You can learn more about the AFC by visiting its website.
