Happy holidays and seasons greetings to all of our alumnae, parents, and friends!
First of all, I am thrilled to announce we have elected our new Managing Board for the 2015 calendar year so this is the last time you’ll be hearing from me! For those of you who tend to quickly skim through your inboxes, my name is Maya and I am the proud, sad, prematurely nostalgic, outgoing president of the Virginia Women’s Chorus. I could not be more grateful for my time in this group and look forward to the opportunity to continue connecting with fellow “Vdubz” and seeing what wonderful things the chorus does in the future.
This semester at UVA has been difficult, testing us to lengths that go beyond the student body and community as a whole. As a chorus, we have sought comfort in the warmth B012 in Old Cabell Hall, with hopes of spreading love and joy across our community through song. The Annual Family Weekend Choral Showcase was sold out this year for the “first time in living memory,” per our friends in the McIntire Department of Music. This was the first VWC performance for our 18 new girls and I was incredibly impressed with their dedication and enthusiasm in the hectic weeks leading up to the concert.
In addition to studying hard and singing beautifully, the chorus has kept busy with a variety of fundraising activities and social events with the Glee Club. This year’s Annual Fund campaign was a great success and we are extremely grateful for the generous contributions we received. We hope you enjoyed hearing from current members of the chorus and look forward to the opportunity to reconnect and catch up during our 40th Anniversary Concert in the spring.
