Joining Virginia Women’s Chorus was one of the best decisions I made during my four years at UVa. I auditioned in the spring of my first year after feeling a little lost my first semester. From that point on, I never regretted my decision to join VWC! Becoming a VDub led to so many amazing memories, lasting friendships, and opportunities for my personal growth. I took on the role of Vice President as a second year and then served as co-president with Jenni (Bechard) Marshall. While co-president, I was grateful to be a part of the team of chorus members and dedicated alumnae that created the VWC Alumnae Interest Group (AIG) in 2009. Some of my favorite memories from my time in VWC include our Spring 2009 DC Tour (aka Wally Goes to Washington), where we performed a choral evensong at the National Cathedral, and helping plan and sing in the 35th Anniversary Concert in my fourth year.
After I graduated, I worked for the U.S. Department of the Navy as a civilian in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Virginia. During that time I realized my passion for helping others in their careers and, based on my time on Managing Board with VWC, I looked into how I could work with college students. I took a job with George Washington University in DC in their Center for Career Services, where I planned career fairs and other employer recruiting events on campus (I still feel weird saying ‘campus’ and not ‘Grounds’!). While working at GW, I also got my Master’s in higher education administration.
I currently live with my husband (a fellow Hoo) in Burke, Virginia, our 1-year-old son, and two crazy dogs. I still enjoy singing, most recently with my church choir. I really miss the four-part women’s harmonies and am still so impressed by the beautiful music VWC makes! I hope I can sing with a women’s chorus again. I also serve as the Reunions Chair for the VWC Alumnae Interest Group
