vwc2VWC has broken new ground by presenting our first annual “Women Against Violence” benefit concert! Proceeds went to three non-profit organizations that help survivors of sexual assault.  Here is an excerpt from an interview I had: “After the Rolling Stone article put UVA in a negative spotlight, I thought we should shine light on the positive messages that the University is sending. And it is imperative that young women’s (and men’s) voices are heard – literally! Music has long been used to create social change and has the inherent ability to unify and inspire others. Through this medium and by the words of our speakers, we hope our program will inspire and uplift, and create its own momentum for the transformations that are needed.” We were happy to have singers from the area high schools as well as members from the three of the oldest a cappella groups and the Glee Club join us! Janice Park, a recent alum and current med student at UVA, put together this short video with excerpts from the groups that performed. We hope you find this inspiring and uplifting!
