2016 Year In Review

Dear ATΩ Alumni,

My name is Matias Hahn, I am the current Worthy Master of the Delta Chapter at UVa. I had the pleasure of meeting some of you at Foxfield, as well as earlier in the semester. After holding our last chapter of the year and as we gear up for finals, I would like to give our alumni an update on the goings on of 125 Chancellor Street.

This has been a very successful year for us. In the Fall Semester we led two philanthropic endeavors, a blood drive with the American Red Cross and our second annual Voices for Vets, an a cappella concert benefitting a local veterans organization. The blood drive was so well advertised that the Red Cross couldn’t handle all the people that showed up, and the concert raised around $750.

The Spring Semester started off strong, as we welcomed the 17-man Alpha Chi pledge class to the chapter. Philanthropically, the semester went even better: One of our brothers, Alec Dougherty, shaved his read and raised nearly $3,000 to benefit children’s cancer research. Our Taus for Paws event raised $3,600 that went straight to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA shelter. Alumni played a large role in both of these fundraising efforts, and for that we are extremely grateful.

Earlier in the year I circulated a networking spreadsheet, and so far around 60 alumni have filled it out. I know not everyone has been reached out to, but the spreadsheet has been very beneficial for those brothers who have put it to use. If you would like to contribute to the spreadsheet, you can do so here.

Finally, as many of you likely saw in the latest Delta Dispatch, the Board of Trustees, in close collaboration with the Active Chapter, has launched a renewed and expanded capital campaign to improve the facilities at 125 Chancellor Street. We’ve received a great deal of early support thus far – $50,000 of pledges by the last tally – and the fundraising effort appears to be gaining momentum. If you are interested in making a pledge to the Capital Campaign or reviewing the house renovation plans in more detail, please contact John Sweeney at JohnHSweeney@gmail.com. Otherwise, you may set up a one-time or recurring donation here. We have a real opportunity to improve our Chapter House and help ensure ATΩ’s success at UVa for future generations, and we hope you will all consider contributing to this important endeavor.

L&R,
Matias Hahn, 18
