Delta Dispatch Spring 2020

March 2020

Delta Chapter Alumni,

This Delta Dispatch comes at a strange and uncertain time for all of us. Like many of our communities, jobs, and local governments, the University has taken measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Actives have returned to their homes and thankfully are able to continue their education through virtual classes. Although this will interrupt the usual proceedings of the Chapter, the officers are working hard to improvise and make the best of a bad situation. We’ve been inspired to see how creative the Actives have been at continuing Brotherhood events and Chapter traditions online or by video.

Alpha Tau Omega and the broader Greek community have weathered many challenging periods in the past including wars, economic downturns, and social unrest. We have always endured, and together as Brothers we will continue to endure. Please read on for several updates regarding the Active Chapter, Capital Campaign, and Spring Rush results.

We wish you and your families well. Wash your hands and stay safe!

L&R, the Delta Chapter Board of Trustees

My name is Matthew Foreman, and I am the current Worthy Master of ATΩ Delta. Like other UVA fraternities, we faced headwinds in recruitment this year, which means we must work extra hard next year to recruit strong brothers.

My executive board will accomplish this by overhauling our Rush process, particularly with informal fall recruiting efforts; bringing the fraternity closer together in the spring through a brotherhood retreat; and by giving more say to the brothers and improving executive board transparency. I’m confident we will be able to accomplish all this and more thanks to the strength and talent of our Brotherhood.

Four years after launching our latest Capital Campaign, we have finally begun the first phases of the construction process for an expanded and improved Chapter house!

A strong finish to this campaign would ensure that we are well-capitalized and positioned for a successful and timely delivery of the improved Chapter house, and secure ATΩ’s future at the University of Virginia for future generations of Taus.

You may donate here. If you have any questions or wish to learn more about the Capital Campaign, please contact John Sweeney at or at 931-510-0023.

This year, the Delta Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega kicked off 2020 with a successful Rush process. We extended 64 first round invites, offered 11 bids, and had 6 acceptances.

These numbers are lower than previous years due in part to a 33% decrease in Rush participation. However, our conversion rate remains in line with previous years, allowing us to secure a strong and high quality pledge class.
