Calling All Engineers! SHPE’s Juntos Podemos

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SPHE) at the University of Virginia is hosting the one-day high school visitation event, Juntos Podemos. Juntos Podemos will be held in Charlottesville on April 7, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. This event will welcome high school juniors and seniors from different parts of Virginia to explore UVA with current SHPE students. The primary objective of this event is to introduce students to the field of engineering and garner an interest in it. Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to tour the facilities of our Engineering School, witness our amazing research laboratories, and actively participate in engineering activities that will require them to think and act like engineers.

Juntos Podemos also serves as a way to equip high school students with important insights and knowledge that will help prepare them for their collegiate careers. This year’s event will include panel discussions featuring both engineering alumni and current students, who will share their personal experiences and insights with the attending students. If you are interested in serving as an alumni panelist, please reach out to Roy Alcala (Engr ’27) at whk2aw@virginia.edu as soon as possible and let him know you found out about the opportunity through the Bolívar Network. The panels will take place on April 7 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

“As a valued alumnus, your insight could make a big difference in shaping the futures of these young students. We believe your experiences could inspire and help prepare our participants for college. Any form of support would be greatly appreciated, whether through speaking or other means of involvement would make a significant difference on Juntos Podemos.”
– Roy Alcala (Engr ’27)

If you are interested in supporting this event without being a panelist, please consider donating to SHPE and/or working with your employer’s sponsorship team to consider being a sponsor for the event.
