the house
____________________________________________
Kappa’s Epsilon Sigma house, which opened in 1980, is a 1970’s modern design structure built to industrial construction standards, unlike the many historic buildings that house fraternities and sororities at the University of Virginia.
Currently, twenty third-year students and one house director live in the house during the academic year. Because there are over 45 members in each class, third-year members participate in a lottery to determine if they might live in the house each year.
We have an opportunity to renovate the current Epsilon Sigma house from a cramped space too small for the chapter, with twin beds so tiny they need to be customized, no study space, and outdated plumbing into a beautiful home for our girls.
planned house renovations
- Adding bedrooms and enlarging existing rooms to incorporate two standard size twin beds per room
- Extending the chapter meeting room to be able to accommodate the full chapter
- Creating designated study spaces for residents with better WiFi access
- Updating plumbing and HVAC systems
- Streamlining the bathroom to better fit the needs of residents
