Theta’s First Spring Semi-Formal

By Maddie Morris (’17)

This year, for the first time, University of Virginia’s chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta decided to throw a semi-formal dance. Semi-formal was similar to the parents formal we have each fall, however there were no parents in attendance, and the overall vibe of the evening was much more casual. This is an event some other sororities have been having for years. After seeing how much fun it was for them, Theta decided to give it a shot. The women of Delta Chi were each allowed to invite one date. Everyone wore their finest semi-formal attire, the girls in an array of colorful dresses and the boys in coats and ties. After engaging in some casual socializing, we all took a bus to The Southern, a popular restaurant and music venue on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. The band played everything from old favorites to new hits. The dance floor was definitely packed all night long. A photo booth and photographers from EpicCville added to the fun and made for some cute keepsakes afterwards. We all headed home around midnight, exhausted from swing dancing in high heels all night. Overall the semi-formal was a big success and the perfect way to end a fantastic year. Hopefully this will become a new tradition for Thetas to enjoy for years to come.
