This year, Parent’s Formal was a highly anticipated event, particularly because it took place in the spring, making it so First Year Thetas were able to participate in festivities for the first time ever. The event usually takes place in the fall, prior to formal sorority recruitment, and therefore is attended only by Fourth, Third, and Second Years. While it made for a more crowded dance floor, the general sentiment was certainly “the-more-the-merrier.” Thetas were thrilled for the chance to have a Formal filled with every single one of their sisters; and parents potentially even more thrilled for the chance to meet so many of their daughters’ friends and fellow Theta parents.
The First Years enjoyed a wonderful buffet dinner in their own dining room, while the Second, Third, and Fourth years sat in the main room. Thanks to the organization of Mr. Voigt, father of Paxton Voigt, a member of the (rising) Third Year pledge class, the Second, Third, and Fourth years were lucky enough to indulge in their meal alongside an impressive acapella performance. The UVA Hullabahoos, garbed according to tradition in their colorful robes, provided the Theta women and their parents a lovely concert composed of several of their pieces. Their talent and vivacity on stage dazzled parents and Theta members alike, and made an excellent dinner even better.
Theta families were lucky enough to enjoy two outstanding musical guests. After dinner, the dance floor was assembled and the First Years joined the rest of their sisters in the main room. The band quickly kicked off the night with upbeat tunes, and concluded festivities with equally as much energy as when they began. Parent’s Formal was a nearly perfect night, with parents and Thetas alike leaving perhaps exhausted from dancing, but more importantly content and feeling even closer to the Theta family.
