The Helping Hand Bicentennial Scholarship Fund

Brothers,

As many of you know, our Xi Chapter Alumni have expressed interest in endowing a scholarship fund to benefit the undergraduate brothers of Theta Chi. The Board of Directors of the Xi Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni Association is excited to announce the establishment of the Xi Chapter of Theta Chi Helping Hand Bicentennial Scholarship Fund. We are so appreciative and thankful that $400,000 of the $667,000 goal has already been committed!

As part of the Bicentennial Scholarship Program, the University will match the fund 50% until $1 million in contributions has been reached. Once $1 million in contributions has been reached, the University will do a full $1 million match while matching dollars exist. The plan is to distribute 5% of the fund’s balance for scholarships with the goal of distributing $50,000 per year to brothers in good standing. The endowment will be invested by UVIMCO, the University Investment Management Company which has averaged returns over 10% for the past 20 years.

Though this scholarship will function separately from the Quentin Alcorn Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship recognizing a Greek member from any fraternity at the University who has made a positive impact on the community, we see benefits from sharing oversight of both scholarship opportunities. Our hope is that not only will these scholarships serve our current undergraduate brothers, but that they will also be attractive to potential new members during the recruiting process.

The Fundraising Process

While we welcome all alumni brothers to participate, we recognize that each of us have different levels of passion for this venture and may have other charitable commitments at this time. That said, we encourage you to consider donating to the fund. You’re welcome to do so via a one-time donation, or by participating in our pledge program which can be paid over the next five years. See below for our different donation tiers:

  • Sponsor – $100,000
  • Gold – $50,000
  • Silver – $25,000
  • Bronze – $10,000
  • Participant – $1,000

All donors will be recognized, but an individual’s donation amount will remain confidential. All gifts will qualify for a charitable tax deduction and corporate matches are encouraged.

If interested in participating, donations can be made online, via wire transfer, and Donor Advised Funds (DAFs). For a complete guide to giving, please visit the UVA Giving page. If you have any questions about your donation, please contact Adam Fentress, Managing Director of Development, University Priorities of Advancement at adamfentress@virginia.edu.

We hope you’ll consider donating today!
