Dear Brothers,

This is an exhilarating time for the University of Virginia – and for the Nu Charge of Theta Delt.

We assembled yet another impressive pledge class this year and are delighted to announce that the Annual Theta Delta Chi Nu Charge Alumni Weekend will be held this year from Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8!

Last year’s Alumni Weekend was a tremendous success, connecting 80 Brothers from the past half century to the current undergrad brothers. This year’s event will be even larger, giving us another opportunity to rekindle our bonds.

The Agenda

Friday, 9/6

  • The weekend will again begin with a Friday evening football game tailgate (the Hoos host William & Mary)
  • Purchase football tickets in Theta Delta Chi’s block here.
  • To update everyone, the Friday Night Tailgate for the William & Mary football game will be taking place in East Lot A, at plot #116. So, sell your parking pass and bring all of your cornhole sets, kegs, and 7-layer dips over to East Lot that we can throw an awesome celebration of our brotherhood and cheer on the Hoos! The start time is 5:00 PM.

Saturday, 9/7

  • On Saturday afternoon from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm, we will again have a Networking Event and lunch, modeled on last year’s successful event, which was enjoyed by all.
    • Location: Downtown at CitySpace (100 5th St NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902)!
  • Please click here to nominate yourself or anyone else to be our Keynote Speaker or sit on one of our panels, addressing career-related topics for undergrads and young alumni.
  • Everyone will then enjoy dinner on their own with their oldest and newest friends.
  • On Saturday night from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, we will host a cocktail party that honors two brothers who led the House Corporation for the past 20 years: Kevin McNerney and Wayne Grove.
    • On Saturday evening at 8:00 PM, we will be having a party at Three Notch’d Brewing and Craft Kitchen in order to honor some of our most dedicated brothers and to pass the torch to the new reign of leadership in our organization. We are running out of spots for this event, so sign up quickly!
    • While this event is part of our annual Alumni Weekend, we have a few spots for those who want to attend this event only. Tickets to support the event are $35 and can be paid via Venmo to @ThetaDeltaChiNu. If you don’t use Venmo, email Mark Moran ’84 (markemoran@gmail.com) to arrange other forms of payment.
    • There will be appetizers and a cash bar, including a $20 all-the-beer-you-can-drink option. We can’t wait to see you there!
  • We will also pay homage to Mike Perfater, Pete Hoyt, Ed Simpson, and BJ Hubbard (Omega), who have all contributed their considerable talents and time to the Nu Charge for a half-century.
  • It is not an understatement to say that the Nu Charge of Theta Delta Chi owes its continued existence to each of these loyal and dedicated Brothers.
  • We have several venues on Grounds under consideration for Saturday night and the choice will depend upon how many registrants we have.

Sunday, 9/8

  • On Sunday morning, we will have a farewell brunch at the House from 10:30-1:00 pm.

We ask that you do these five things TODAY

  1. REGISTER for the weekend here
  2. CLICK HERE to make a contribution of $90 to help defray the food and beverage expenses for the weekend (feel free to contribute something even if you can’t attend).
  3. SHARE this invite with every single brother whose contact information you have, and let them know you plan to attend and that you hope they will as well.
  4. DONATE by clicking here to make an additional contribution to support the House. Many brothers make monthly donations of $18.11 (or more) towards the House. Even small contributions like these make an immense impact on the prosperity of the house. Additional ways to give to Theta Delta Chi Capital Renovation Fund (FSOD 362) or Theta Delta Chi NU Charge Annual Fund (FSOD 360)
  5. PURCHASE football tickets for you and your family in Theta Delta Chi’s block.

An update for those who have not been in touch in recent years:

  • A few years ago, the House faced a very challenging financial situation.
  • A number of alumni stepped up to stabilize the House’s finances.
  • For several years now, the undergraduates have recruited robust pledge classes and professionalized the way in which they manage the House.
  • The House Corp Board, led by new President Ben Webne, meets many times each year to provide oversight. Members include: Charlie Armstrong, David Chamowitz, Trip Colden, Tom Evans, Ryan Fay, Peter Hoyt, Ron Goode, Rick Gregory, Brad Kerchof, Mark Kloeppel. Kevin McNerney, Mark Moran, Jeffey Moffett, Peter Ryan, Ed Simpson, and Jeremy Small.
  • Several alumni with substantial legal, financial and organizational prowess have advised the undergrads in this process.
  • The House today is on solid footing, but it lacks the robust support from its alumni that many other fraternities at UVA enjoy.
  • As we honor the handful of Brothers who have carried the House for the past 40+ years, it is time for every alumnus who cherishes his membership in the Brotherhood to step-up in whatever way he can.
  • As we have done every decade or so since the 1970s, this fall we will announce a major capital raising initiative to renovate the House. We are eager to see broad participation from all living alumni in this initiative, rather than relying on a handful of loyal and generous alumni, as we have in the past.

In the Bonds,

Ben Webne, President, House Corporation ’03
Dom Sutermeister, President ’20
Robbie Hodgson, Alumni Chair ’20
Patrick Burke, Mentorship Chair ’20
