I hope everyone is having a terrific summer! In the months since our last newsletter UVA has brought home the coveted first national championship in basketball and another (our 6th) in Lacrosse. Congrats to the ‘Hoos on an amazing year in sports – what a great building block (or launch pad?) as we prepare for the upcoming fall football season and Homecomings.

In Xi Chapter news, the summer has already been eventful. In early June we celebrated Reunions with returning alumni over two Saturdays on June 1st and June 8th. Forty returning alumni and guests returned to Theta Chi for our 6th annual barbeque during both weekends. Our streak of beautiful Charlottesville weather on the patio continued and alumni from six decades re-connected over barbeque and cold drinks. Thank you to everyone who stopped by this year and we look forward to seeing the classes of ‘0s and ‘5s next summer!

Prior to the June 1st barbeque, our board met at the house for our quarterly meeting. At the meeting we confirmed the start-date for the main floor replacement and finalized the floor finish selection. The main level floors in Theta Chi were original to the house and became our priority capital project for this year. After deciding on natural oak to keep with the character of the house, we reviewed multiple proposals and selected Piedmont Facilities Management (a division of R.E. Lee, our contractor for the renovation) to perform the work based on their comprehensive approach and cost among other factors. The project was completed in early July and you can read and see more in Chris Winter’s House and Grounds article.

Finally, it’s never too early to plan for Homecomings, which is set for Saturday, November 9th with Virginia taking on Georgia Tech. In addition to our annual pre-game tailgate at Theta Chi, we have worked with UVA Alumni Association to reserve our traditional block of tickets and hotel rooms. In the newsletter, you’ll find additional information on Homecomings, including links to RSVP for the tailgate and to reserve tickets and hotel rooms.

Please send any of the board your feedback and visit our website at www.thetachiuva.com to stay updated on news and events. We hope to hear from you and to see you in the Fall. Go ‘Hoos!

The undergraduate chapter completed a successful academic year.  The brothers’ mean GPA of nearly 3.5 was sixth best among all fraternities. In addition to maintaining a high GPA, many undergraduate brothers have traveled across the country and beyond to work for an impressive list of companies for their summer internships.
